Ahra

This piece is a wearable sculpture that is named for the high priestesses of the Tombs of Atuan, by Ursula LeGuin. In the series, the high priestess is renamed as Ahra, meaning the 'eaten one', and she is responsible for learning and navigating an underground labyrinth entirely in the dark. The piece was created during the Covid-19 pandemic, with ideas around personal protective equipment such as masks and hazmat suits. It follows a similar material theme to Recollection.

Made with smoked reed, stain, varnish, black linen and thread. Approximately 3 x 2 x 1.5 ft.
